Yarnplay review and giveaway on Sirius satellite radio

this morning i received the following email from a reporter in Canada;

Hi Lisa, I'm a Montreal-based journalist and book reviewer (and hopelessly addicted knitter) and I loved your book "Yarnplay". I'll be reviewing it today on Radio Canada International's "The Link" and because I ended up with two copies (I was too impatient for your publisher to send me a copy and went out and bought one) I'll be sharing the wealth today and giving away a copy to folks who write in. "The Link" is a program meant to connect Canada to the world and the world to Canadians. It runs on the Sirius satellite, but everyone can listen to it on the website or download the podcast (which is free). Simply go to: http://www.rcinet.ca/rci/en/emissions/emission_1952.shtml The page will refresh today at 3:30pm eastern time and then you'll be able to listen to my review. Can you please put the word out on your blog so folks will tune in and listen and write in--you see, I don't get to do knitting titles too often because it's such a niche market. But if a huge number of knitters are listening and find my contribution interesting, perhaps my producers will let me make it a regular segment. Then there will be more books to dicuss (and maybe even for listeners to win!) The email address is thelink@rcinet.ca I'll have instructions for listeners today and then all they have to do is email in with their responses. The contest runs for just under 2 weeks, so they have to get their answers in before Dec 31, 2007. The winner will be announced on Jan 2, 2008. And it's open to everyone no matter where they live. If you miss the program today, you can always look up the archive on the right hand side of the home page and download the podcast. Thank you again for your lovely inspiring book and please help me get the word out. Happy holidays, Geeta

Yarnplay review - Knitty - Winter 06

This book should really be called Inspired Knitting or something that hints at the depth and breadth of elements that Lisa Shobhana Mason calls up in her designs. She knits and teaches knitting as an intuitive process, following what speaks to you, and finding unique ways to incorporate ideas. All of her designs are stylish and charming, but her intuition really sings in her sweater designs -- they are artistic yet wearable. They inspire knitters to take an extra step outside. -JM

Yarnplay review - Bust Magazine - Oct / Nov 2006

Bust

Lisa Shobhana Mason's Yarnplay is not a knitting primer, but it's not strictly for the advanced knitters either. Instead, it blends the right amount of basics with the tools to help any knitter create projects that are truly her own.

I've been reviewing the contents of my yarn chest and contemplating Mason's Everything-But-The-Kitchen-Sink sweater, which somehow creates harmony out of those accumulated, mismatched bits of yarn too short for anything else. I'll certainly give my co-workers exfoliating washcloths constructed of sturdy natural yarns and delicate stitching this holiday season. And arm-warmers and a coordinating knit purse are on my list of fall must-makes. To be honest, my knitting ambitions far outstrip my knitting talents, but this craft book does beautifully what any craft book worth the space on my crowded shelves needs to do: it gets me itching to start projects I'd never considered before.

This is the book for the knitter with a stash of fabulous yarn and no projects to create with it. While Mason provides clear, concise directions for the more timid knitter, her goal is to help the reader express her personality and style by playing with color, texture, weight, and gauge. And for all the irreverence and fun Mason offers, Yarnplay also contains a few pieces, like the Keep-It-Simple-So-Your-Man-Will-Wear-It pullover, that exude classic elegance.
